Allen Texas Attorneys Attorneys & Counselors
Allen, Texas · Established 2001

You present the problem,
we’ll present the solution.

For over 20 years, our all-women firm has represented clients in Allen and the surrounding communities of Collin, Grayson, Dallas and Denton counties — with clear, honest counsel and the same commitment to every client, whether the matter is large or small.

The Firm

Close, personal representation — since 2001.

Allen Texas Attorneys represents clients in Allen, Texas and throughout Collin County and surrounding areas. We provide close, personal representation. Because Carolyn Northcutt is also a C.P.A., her ability to use her accounting skills has been invaluable to business owners, clients in need of wills and trusts, as well as divorce clients with complex property disputes.

We have established a reputation for providing clients with superior legal representation. The office’s attorneys are known for developing creative solutions to resolve legal issues. They understand that clients seek cost-effective representation — so they advise that negotiation is less expensive, and are often able to obtain their clients’ desired outcome without the expense of a trial. However, when the situation calls for it, the office will not hesitate to take an aggressive stand and litigate on behalf of its clients.

The most important — and often overlooked — aspect of a relationship with a lawyer is the education and planning involved in solving legal issues. We pride ourselves on taking the fear and mystery out of your legal matter. You will receive clear, concise explanations to help you make informed decisions, and be treated with the respect and dignity that you deserve.

Answers

Questions we hear often.

A few common questions on estate planning, divorce and child support. Every situation is different — call us and an experienced attorney will answer yours.

Estate Planning I moved to Texas with a simple will from another state. Do I need a new one?

In many instances you should prepare a new Texas will — though this is not necessary in every case. A Texas attorney can review your current will to determine whether a new one should be made.

Estate Planning Where is the best place to keep my signed estate-planning documents?

Often a safe deposit box, which protects the documents from theft, fire and loss — consider naming a family member or your trustee as a joint holder so it can be opened after your death. You may also keep them at your attorney’s office or in a safe place at home.

Divorce How long does it take to finalize a divorce in Texas?

The Petition for Divorce must be on file for a minimum of 60 days before a divorce can be finalized. An agreed divorce can be finalized once the sixty-day waiting period expires; disputes over the children or the marital estate can take longer.

Child Support How much child support can I expect?

Generally the parent who designates the children’s primary residence can expect support equal to 20% of the other parent’s net resources for one child, 25% for two, 30% for three and 35% for four — adjusted for other children being supported. The court may also consider intentional under-employment and may require health insurance for the children.
